Looks That Kill - And Win Awards

NOVATO ADVANCE   |   March 29, 2007

"Novato garden designer Matt Buchholz scored the Silver Award at the 22nd Annual San Francisco Flower and Garden Show at the Cow Palace this past week with his macabre yet educational garden "If Looks Could Kill.""

"…His garden was dramatically different from the more traditional garden designs on display at the show. Visitors descended from a grassy graveyard via a wooden and rebar staircase through elevated and oversized flowering baskets that suggested a floating garden. These baskets were supported by seven large rebar and metal "trees," designed and built by Buchholz, which attracted considerable interest from home owners, wineries and nurseries…"

"…"My installation is sort of educational so people can see what's (poisonous) in their gardens - especially as children are usually the ones who eat stuff," said Buchholz. "I don't expect to change the world but I like to do my little thing. I always like my little thing to be different."…"
